Update 20.4.2006: Info on this page is partly out-dated, check out the current tech spec for latest plans

Chassis

This is the part where there are no changes. Gonna put a lot of new steel, front wings, rear wheel arches, trunk door etc etc, of course get a new paint job (original colour, no question about it), new S stickers and so on. Still no plastics planned :-) Everything is going to be dismantled, cleaned/replaced and re-painted.

Tech

Well, as you can see, the 1.6 CVH with Kent Cams & Dellortos are in place as planned. New steel exhaust manifold and a 2" pipe are going to replace the original manifold and the mk2 1.4 pipe. And because I can't find a 4 speed gearbox with better final drive than 3.84:1, I'm going to get a 5 speed there. And it's going to be self-made, the budget doesnt 'quite' allow a factory made from Fiestacentre :-) Also a better air intake system for the carbs has to be done. The battery - and maybe the windscreen washer tank - is going to be placed in the trunk. The fuel pump will propably be moved from the engine compartment closer to the tank. A lambda sond+mixture indicator will be installed. Also some other extra gauges are planned. The cooler will propably be replaced with Mk2 1.4/1.6 unit because it fits better than the Escort/Orion type. Water pump will be changed to pre '85 model for better installation of the hoses. And I hope this time I won't forget to make a hole in the gearbox to get a view of the flywheel to get the timing adjusted (The crankshaft pulley can't be seen from the up so the original timing scale can't be seen. Of course there has to be markings made in the flywheel and gearbox to get it right.).

Interior

The interior plans have been totally altered, and there are two reasons for that. From the beginning I have had troubles getting the interior to look 100% original, mostly because of the seats. Where can I find a pair of front seats in good shade and with a fabric that was made between 76-78 or so? Also the door panels have seen their better days maybe 20 years ago, but that wasn't of course a big problem. Up to ~4/04 I had also been looking for a dashboard in good condition, but that I have found now. And the other reason. That's also one of the things that boosted my motivation after almost a year of not doing anything. Last summer I participated in two trackdays with my MK6 wow gasp! It was great!! Eventhough the MK6 weights around 1200kg and has only 80 horsepower, it still was awesome!! This excitement combined to the first reason makes you think about ... a interior with a pair of racing seats, safety belts and most likely a rollcage and everything else that comes in mind :-) At the moment my daydream and the most interesting choice in the seats is the BIG -model from OMP beacause I am a big boy and I can get them with a good discount from my work. The belts will be from the cheapest category, something like this. The better models come with 'pilot lock' and come only in 6 point mountings and cost almost twice as much than two of these cheaper models so .. :-) If I ever start with the rollcage, this will be the type for it. Suspension

Some kind of camber and caster adjustment in the front will be build up, and a thicker antiroll bar to the back (from Mk2 1.4) will be installed too. The gold/chrome Mangels Scorpios (seen in the diary up to summer 04) would've been the maximum retro to have, but as you might have seen they don't quite fit because of the RWD ofset, and I really don't want to risk my new bodyjob with rims not fitting 100%. Also they weren't even in moderate condition and the center caps were missing, so I started to look after something better. First I was chasing some other retrolookers, but because all of the second hand retrorims were from a RWD, they were not accepted. As the interiorplans changed as meantioned above, also some racelook style would be appropriate. And in only a few days, a friend told he had some 14" lying around worthless, and that took care of that problem. They can be found in the '04 diary. The wheels will be size 185/55. Also daydreaming of a Gaz suspension set - incl coilovers in the front - from Burton Power. But 800e is 800e :-/
