What is it:

This is an unofficial Teamspeak 3 server for people flying X-Plane online, run by porakone (@x-plane.org forum) / PDrill (@online flying). It was first set up for the 563th fly-in just as a test, but as it seemed to work and there isn't any other server available (?), I just left it running ever since. On this page you will find everything you need to know to use it. However, I will not be able to assist with Teamspeak and/or on-line flying as I'm a n00b myself, I can only tell you how this server is meant to be used.

What you need:

You will ofcourse need a TS3 client to connect, the server address is wonk.sytes.net, port is the default (9987). You can login with any username, best is of course the name you are using on the flightserver. To prevent just anyone logging in from the open servers -lists, for now we will be using haab as a password. In case there begins to be problems with 'outsiders', the password is going to be changed and kept 'private'.

There are plenty of old X-Ivap/Teamspeak -instructions around, but they are not valid any more so do not try to use voicecommunications with those instructions - read this. At this time TS3 does not work together with X-Plane in any way and it will be completely separate software. You need to connect it manually to the server and you also need to configure the push-to-talk -button in TS3, not in X-Plane. And you really should use push-to-talk, voice activation detection doesn't seem to work very well. As not all use voice comm you have to set COM1 to 121.00 (either .c1 121.00 on the X-Ivap console or use the plane's freq adjust) to get text messages from other pilots.

After connecting:

Teamspeak has channels (like rooms in a webchat) for different uses, but if there are no users there will be no channels either. When you log in, you will be in channel Pre-Flight. If there are people in some event, you will see the channel for that event and people in it. Join it if that's what you will be participating or create your own.

Goose has just joined and is in the Pre-Flight -channel.
PDrill and Kumiankka are in a fly-in event
Maverick has made his own channel and is waiting for his friends to log in and have their own happening.

When you are on the right channel and you have managed to configure TS (=it works, so to speak), then you can leave TS alone and start X-Planeing.

Misc stuff:

As this is a 'stand-alone, no X-Plane integration' -setup, there are no rangelimits and you can hear everyone 'from other side of the world' as long as they are in the same channel - unlike with the previous X-Plane/X-Ivap/Teamspeak system that had a XXX nm range.

Even if you don't have a microphone, it's a good idea to log in to hear others.

If you have a headset (talk and hear), you need to remember to look for the X-Ivap messaging too to know what everyone's doing because some (most?) people use only that for communicating. And you also need to remember that everyone can't hear you so it would be a good idea to text you most significant moves if you have the time to.

This is a no-licence server so the userlimit is 32, but it should be plenty for us. If you need to, you can use this for other communication needs occasionally, just leave space for X-Planers if the userlimit closes.

From a beginner to a beginner:

In X-Flightserver there is usually (never?) no air traffic control so you don't have to ask permission for your actions. There might be some rules to follow in public events but basically you just try to follow what everyone is doing and try to stay out of the way while getting your thing done.

The most important thing is to tell others what you are doing so they can avoid and/or guide you.

It might be a good idea to plan your actions ahead and write down what, where and when you are going to say to other pilots.

ToDo: What and how you need to communicate.

Server status:

If you can't connect, you can check the server status below. If there are no errors, it should be ok.

If you can see me in the X-Flightserver map, I'm most likely doing short hops (the flight plan is propably not 100% correct) with a Cessna and you are welcome to join - with or without Teamspeak.
